Where are the Life Boats? Life after Vendor Programs

First of all, I have to say a huge thank you for all of the glowing feedback we’ve received from one of our most recent articles on the pitfalls of vendor program. Unfortunately, this obviously struck a cord with a great deal of you throughout the industry. It’s a reminder that we can all be vulnerable at times.

titanicIn case you haven’t read it, here’s a link. In it, we compared the vendor programs to the “inpenetrable” Titanic. Of course, thanks to Leonardo DiCaprio, we all know how well that story ended.

If you’ll remember the story of the Titanic and its ill fated passengers, you’ll recall not everyone died that night. Similarly, the collapse of local vendor programs see some companies are able to find their legs and it isn’t just the biggest or the “luckiest”. What does it mean to be a Leader?

Anybody seen any water damage?

Have you ever heard the story of Joseph of Egypt? Joseph was the 2nd youngest of 12 brothers and his Dad loved him best. You could imagine that he got picked on a lot. So much in fact that his brothers conspired to murder him and tell their dad an animal had done it. He ended up in the bottom of a pit, left to die until his brothers being the capitalists they were decided to instead sell him into slavery.

Joseph at the bottom of this pit becoming a slave had two choices— mourn his plight and toss up his hands or become the single best slave he could be.

He ran a house and became 2nd in charge when his master’s wife tried to seduce him. He rejected her and she got angry and accused him of attempted rape. Back in jail but it wasn’t long before he became the top prisoner. Eventually he would reign as 2nd in charge of Egypt.
